What Do the Outbreak of World War I, the Construction of the Atomic Nucleus, the Reproduction of Kiwi and Artificial Organs in the Human Body Have in Common

High school students participated in an exchange in Romania under a project of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology/ Bulgarian Academy of Sciences – part of National program “Education with Science”.

During the period 21-25 May 2025, students from 91. German language school and 164 Spanish language school participated in an exchange of experience and innovative educational practices under a project of the IPS with the head Prof. Emer. Dr. of Science Veselin Petrov and coordinator Senior Asst. Dr. Vesselina Kachakova. The students, led by Asst. Radostina Minina and prof. asst. Dr. Venelin Stoychev participated in an interactive lesson dedicated to the philosophical concepts of causality, presented by Prof. Andrei Marasoiu, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Bucharest. During the lesson, the students reflected on the cause-and-effect chains in history, law, organic chemistry and everyday life. At the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, students participated in an interactive lesson by Christina Todatca, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Organic Chemistry, and visited several laboratories, where they learned how scientific research is done in the fields of biofuels, medicines, food additives, artificial organs and artificial human joints. The exchange of experience also included meetings at the Finnish School in Bucharest, Eureka School, the American University, etc. At the Botanical Garden of the Faculty of Biology of the University of Bucharest, students learned from Dr. Alina Cislariu and Dr. Mioara Dumitrașcu about the history of the garden is and how students experiment in the name of a greener, cleaner and happier world.

Prof. Rumyana Stoilova, Assoc. Prof. Petya Ilieva-Trichkova and Martin Velichkov, all from IPS-BAS, are the authors of a report published recently. The report uses data from major European research infrastructures – the European Social Survey (ESS), the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) and the Generations and Gender Programme (GGP) – within the project Building a Resilient Europe | Infra4NextGen.
