Transforming Social Inequalities in the Digital Society: The Role of Vocational Education and Training

May 12, 2025

A new project has been launched at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, funded through a Swiss-Bulgarian initiative, under the theme “Transforming Social Inequalities in the Digital Society: The Role of Vocational Education and Training.”

The project, led by Prof. Rumiana Stoilova, is funded within the framework of the Swiss-Bulgarian International Research Support Programme. This is the second project supported by Swiss funding (the first one took place from 2012 to 2015), and it includes a requirement for the participation of a team from a third country (in addition to Switzerland and Bulgaria). The project partner is the Institute of Economics – Hungary.

Out of 318 submitted projects, only 9% were approved. In the field of social sciences, 37 projects were submitted from Bulgaria, Hungary, Croatia, Poland, and Romania. Of these, 8 were funded, including the project of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology titled “Transforming Social Inequalities in the Digital Society: The Role of Vocational Education and Training.”

The Bulgarian team includes Prof. Rumiana Zheleva and Assistant Professor Martin Konstantinov. The project will officially begin on July 1, 2025, and will have a duration of 48 months.
